Two years after their sold-out performance honoring the music of Michel Petrucciani, Rick Forschino and his trio, featuring Bill DeLap on acoustic bass and Mike Shannon on drums, return to present compositions by the brilliant living Italian pianist, Enrico Pieranunzi, on Sunday, October 27th, at 2:00pm. Doors open at 1:30pm for wine and light fare (included in the ticket price). Tickets are $35, available on Eventbrite.com.

Enrico Pieranunzi is not only an incredibly sensitive pianist with a touch akin to that of Bill Evans, but also a particularly lyrical composer of uniquely beautiful harmonies. Rick became aware of Pieranunzi’s talented genius in 1987 with the release of “Deep Down” which featured bassist, Marc Johnson, and drummer, Joey Baron. Since then, Enrico has produced over sixty albums that include well over three hundred of his own original compositions. This concert will showcase a personal selection of these compositions, including his famous 1978 piece, “Nightbird,” which gained fame in 1987 when he recorded it with Chet Baker. Baker went on to record and perform this tune multiple times throughout his career. By introducing Pieranunzi’s compositions at The Cherry, this trio will demonstrate how he has devoted his life to establishing a body of work worthy of the collection of standards we now know and love by the famous composers of the 20th century.

Rick Forschino is a well-known jazz musician on the Monterey scene who is drawn to the more lyrical players who experiment with lush unusual harmonies. Over the many years, Rick has played monthly with Bill DeLap at the Carmel Art Association and other venues around the Peninsula with multiple artists. They’ve developed a friendship with a shared special interest in the music of Michel Petrucciani and Enrico Pieranunzi.
