SUMMARY:Carmel Modernism: A Retrospective
DESCRIPTION:Photography from Monterey Area Architectural Resources Archive (MAARA)\nOngoing through November 9th\nPart of Carmel’s centennial celebration\, the event is free and the public is invited.\nCarmel Modernism\, a photography exhibit exploring the early influence of  Monterey peninsula master architects. \nOrganized by Monterey Area Architectural Resources Archive (MAARA)\, the exhibit examines the early influence of the master architects like Richard Neutra and Frank Lloyd Wright whose presence on the peninsula gave way to subsequent generations of architects whose work is the local legacy we celebrate today. \n\n \nThe exhibit will reveal through photography\, renderings and blueprints the architectural contributions to the built environment that is the signature of Carmel. Architects include William Wuster\, Mark Mills\, Rowan Maiden and Frank Lloyd Wright\, among others.\n\n\nThe exhibit can be seen Monday through Friday from 11 to 4 p.m. or by appointment\, through November 9th.\n\n\n“Frank Lloyd Wright by the Sea” \nA lecture by Rick Janick\, Friday\, October 28th at 7pm\n  \n “Frank Lloyd Wright by the Sea”\, a lecture exploring four Carmel homes planned by the iconic architect\, will be held Thursday\, October 28th at the Carl Cherry Center for the Arts beginning at 7 p.m. The lecture is by donation.\n\n  \nPart of Carmel Moderism\,  Rick Janick will consider the Clark house (later built in P:hoenix\, AZ)\, two homes which were never built and the Walker House on Scenic Dr. in Carmel. In addition\, Mr. Janick will discuss the Nesbit House (1940) in Pebble Beach and the Haldon House (1945) above Stewart Beach. Mr.Janick is Professor Emeritus of Architectural History at Monterey Peninsula College and co-founder of Monterey Area Architectural Resources Archive (MAARA).

DESCRIPTION:Leverage your year-end donation through Monterey County Gives with the renovation of the Cherry Center Sculpture Garden! \nThe Geraldine M. and Tom R. Houston Memorial Sculpture Garden at the Carl Cherry Center is one of the last open spaces in Carmel. This elegant\, yet informal\, garden includes a canopy of Monterey Pines and live oak and artwork by a hand-full of significant local sculptors. Carmel Native includes a substantial renovation of the garden\, re-planting of native plants\, sculpture competition\, installation of new sculpture acquisitions\, poetry reading and other on-site events celebrating the benefits of open space\, native plants and contemporary sculpture. Funding is matched by approximately 30 percent through funds from MC Weekly and Community Foundation.
