SUMMARY:Bruce Forman: The Red Guitar...a jazz libretto
DESCRIPTION:SECOND SHOW ADDED\, STARTING AT 9pm (goes until 10:00 p.m.)\nThe Red Guitar\, draws on Bruce Forman’s  decades of experience as a leading jazz guitarist\, and demonstrates his skill as a storyteller and teacher.  The result is a work that is even greater than the considerable sum of its parts. \nA story in jazz\, and about jazz\, it is built upon the armature of a classical tale that is often seen as a metaphor for how artists become possessed by their art.  The story has deep roots in European and American mythos.  From the red slippers that were a literal symbol of imperial authority in the Roman Empire\, through Hans Christian Andersen’s nineteenth-century retelling of The Red Shoes\, and more recently\, in several distinguished film adaptations of this powerful theme\, the underlying tale has resonated with audiences for centuries. \nBruce Forman took on a classic quest as a young man–to grow beyond his roots in Texas\, acquire artistic mastery\, conquer the urban world\, and achieve knowledge and sophistication. His reputation and circle of collaborators grew\, and his horizons expanded: leader on 16 albums; sideman on numerous others; composer; arranger; artist in residence; university educator; philanthropist; composer-performer on a jazz libretto\, The Red Guitar\, and three Clint Eastwood soundtracks: Flags of Our Fathers; Million Dollar Baby; and Hereafter. \nPurchase tickets

SUMMARY:Natural Histories: Celebrating Western Landscape
DESCRIPTION: A reception for the artists will be held Friday\, November 13th from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. \nNatural Histories\, an exhibit celebrating western landscape\, opens Friday\, November 13th at the Carl Cherry Center for the Arts. Comprised of 23 paintings\, the exhibit will include recent work by Tom Davies\, Deanna Forbes\, Sarah Healey\, Mary Liz Houseman\, Karen Kleid\, Margaret Niven. \nOrganized to explore various time periods\, styles\, and themes in landscape painting\, Natural Histories investigates the relationship between abstraction and landscape painting\, the effects of photography on landscapes and the examination of the materiality in painting.  The exhibit brings together the work of artists who have been working with landscape and may lack conventional aesthetic hooks of expression\, narrative\, and beauty; but these paintings are powerful aesthetic statements that reflect the complex and ambiguous relationship between humans and the environment—a relationship of particular importance here in the West. \nThe exhibit can be viewed during open Gallery hours which are Monday – Friday from 11am – 4pm or by appointment.

SUMMARY:Mirth-0-Matics
DESCRIPTION:Tragedy\, comedy or contemporary culture?  It makes no difference to The Mirth ‘O’ Matics\, who take suggestions from the audience on a range of subjects and then creates a series of scenes and skits\, using whatever is at hand. Scenes might include star-crossed lovers\, dance songs\, sword fights\, turkeys\, politicians\, rhyming couplets\, disguises and asides from the audience. The Mirth ‘O’ Matics have gained quite a bit of notoriety as the only troupe on the Central Coast to take audience suggestions and turn them into laugh-out-loud 3-5 minute skits. As usual\, the show will feature plenty of audience participation so be sure to leave your inhibitions at the door. \nTickets are $15 and can be reserved by calling 831-624-7491 or  Purchase online here

SUMMARY:Anne & Pete Sibley
DESCRIPTION:Celebrated as a “disarming virtuosic experience\,” the Sibleys hit the national spotlight in 2009 with a blue ribbon finish in the “Great American Duet Sing Off” on National Public Radio’s A Prairie Home Companion. They’ve performed live at NYC’s Town Hall\, Washington DC’s Kennedy Center and on festival stages such as North Carolina’s Merlefest to Colorado’s Rockygrass.\n\nWith two voices in harmony\, a guitar and a banjo\, Anne and Pete Sibley’s  songs are a journey\, a joining of music and story.  Raised in the Northeast\, settled in the West\, the Sibleys seek to convey music more attune to an experience\, than a simple song.\n\n Tickets are $25 and can be reserved by calling 831-624-7491 or online here\n
